It was only a week after I had completed my final exam at Leeds University that I started my three month internship at Fuel PR. Having not had any previous experience in the PR industry, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit apprehensive and nervous about starting, not just at a new company, but starting my life in the world of work!
I am sure everyone could sense my anxiety in my first week, but fast forward a couple weeks and I felt I had been there three months and not three weeks as I was made to feel part of the Fuel team. There was always a helping hand nearby to help me find my feet and always someone who I could turn to if I had any questions, so I felt I settled in very quickly.
Being a keen sportsman and having an interest in the health and fitness industry, I was excited to find out I had the opportunity to work with clients such as Pulsin’, BodyBuilding.com, Life Changing Fitness and most recently, Fitness Genes. One of the things I enjoy most about working at Fuel PR, is that I am constantly being challenged daily with a variety of different tasks for each client, may that be with media relations, putting together reports and media snapshots, selling in newsworthy stories or just brainstorming ideas.
Three months later, having been offered a permanent full time job at Fuel, I am now starting my role as a Junior Account Executive. I am extremely grateful to Gillian and the management team at Fuel for providing me with this opportunity to continue to learn and be part of the team here at Fuel PR.
If I had any advice for those wanting to start a job in PR, it would be to throw yourself into it and keep wanting to learn and expand your knowledge. There are always going to be challenges and moments where you feel you are struggling, but there is always someone to help.
PS. I have not been paid for this!😉
