Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, Visits Local Community Pharmacy at the Invitation of AIMp’s CEO
Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, was invited by AIMp’s CEO, Leyla Hannbeck, to see community pharmacy provision at work, within his local constituency of Uxbridge, and the visit took place on Friday, 19 January 2020.
Leyla explains: “We wanted to invite Mr Johnson into a local pharmacy to showcase the work and contribution Community Pharmacy makes to the health and wellbeing of the local community. It is important for him to see local healthcare at work, first-hand, as well as hear about how community pharmacy can be a solution to the pressures currently facing the NHS.
Mr Johnson visited an AIMp member pharmacy, McParlands Pharmacy in Uxbridge, where he was welcomed by host, Leyla Hannbeck, CEO of AIMp, and met Corrin McParland, AIMp member and owner of the pharmacy and was introduced to Ian Edgar – Senior Pharmacist at McParlands Pharmacy and Asma Nezezra, second pharmacist.
Rt. Hon. Boris Johnson MP said: “It was a real pleasure to meet with Leyla Hannbeck the CEO of the Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies and Corrin McParland and the team at McParlands Pharmacy to learn more about the important work of community pharmacies in helping to keep local people fit and healthy.
“We discussed how the Pharmacy’s involvement in the consultation service has already benefitted a number of my constituents. This has helped relieve pressure on GPs and A&E departments, as well as giving people the treatment they need as quickly and as close to home as possible”
AIMp represents community pharmacies with multiple branches stretching up and down the country who provide healthcare via their pharmacies on the local high street and deep within the communities they serve.

Over 1.7 million people walk through community pharmacy doors across the country every day. “Today, we are delighted we have been able to showcase community pharmacy to the Prime Minister on his visit. I am really grateful to Mr. Johnson for accepting my invitation and making time, during his busy schedule to visit the McParland Pharmacy and enable us to talk about community pharmacy provision,” concludes Leyla Hannbeck.
