Fuel's Food for the Brain campaign to promote awareness of the link between food and mental health, has enjoyed exciting high profile results.
The first two Food for the Brain pilot school projects achieved their objectives in showing the profound effect children's nutrition has on their behaviour and school performance.
In two challenging schools, an SEN school and a poorly performing primary school, better results, better attitudes to learning and better behaviour took place as a consequence of changing both the children's diet and nutritional awareness, and providing daily multivitamin and essential fat supplementation. Upon announcement of the results, media opportunities were generated with Tonight with Trevor McDonald, GMTV, Daily Mirror, Daily Mail, Daily Express, Daily Telegraph, Evening Standard, and BBC Online.
While the success of these projects was very gratifying, the critical question has yet to be answered: what specifically made the difference? Was it a change in diet, the supplements or awareness about healthy eating, or a combination of diet and supplements. For this reason Food for the Brain is running a third school project in 2008 designed to answer these important questions. It will provide a clear indication of whether diet, supplements or both are needed to replicate the effectiveness of the first two school projects. |
